Intake 4 Alumni sharing tips for a successful job interview

On October 24th 2014, all students of Department of Accounting-Auditing joined a discussion held by Ms. Phan Phi Phung, Audit Senior of International Auditing and Financial Consulting Company Vietnam (IFC Vietnam). Ms. Phung discussed about some interesting issues, which students frequently concern about, such as how to impress the job interviewers or how to win an internship in auditing firms, and she also pointed out some accounting students’ strengths and weaknesses as well as give some advices to overcome them.

Ms. Phung started working for IFC Vietnam after her graduation from University of Economics and Laws (UEL) in 2008. In the past two years, she has the opportunity to involve in her company job interview’s process for internship and/or full-time employment positions. She was quite upset when she found out that UEL’s students are often fell to express their talent to recruiters. In the comparison to students from other schools, they are usually underestimated or even rejected by the employers in the application round. Indeed, however, the survivors, who were not appreciated at first, are very great as work, and they quickly prove their talent to the employers after joining the company. As the matter of fact, UEL’s students are struggling in job interview’s skills and in need of improving these vital experiences.

Ms. Phung, with a viewpoint of a job interviewer, spent almost 2 hours to share her experiences about every stages of job interview, including: application round, selecting interview candidates round and interview round, for students, especially final-year students.

The discussion session went more exciting when she invited a few students to come on stage and had and interview with them directly in front of audience. She never hesitated to make comments, give some advices and suggestions to each of participating interviewees. These comments are extremely genuine and specific, mentioning quite detail about necessary things that a student should perform during their job interviews, such as business dressing, presenting their resume, sitting posture and other skills to make a good impression for the recruiters within the interview, just to name a few.

The dialogue ended warmly and successfully. Here are some pictures of the discussion to share:
